Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser, on your own device. Your images never reach our server or anyone else’s.
What is WebP?
An image format made for the web. WebP files are usually 25 to 35% smaller than JPEG at the same visible quality, and every current browser and WordPress support them.
What size should website images be?
1920 pixels wide is plenty for full-width banners and hero images. Images inside content rarely need more than 1200. Aim for under 200 KB each where you can.
What quality should I use?
75 to 85 looks the same as the original for most photos. Go lower for background images, and higher for detailed product shots.
Why did an image get bigger?
Images that were already well compressed, and simple graphics like logos, can grow when converted. If the format and size stay the same, the original is kept; otherwise the tool tells you, so you can keep the original instead.
Does it remove location data?
Yes. Compressing makes a new file without the camera details and GPS location phones save in photos. Phone photos are also turned the right way up.
Can I compress PNG logos?
Yes. Choose Keep format or WebP to keep transparency. Converting to JPEG fills transparent areas with white, and the tool warns you when that happens.
Do I still need an image plugin?
A plugin helps if you upload lots of images. Compressing before you upload keeps your media library small, works on any site and helps on hosting with storage limits.
